In the novel "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen, imagine Brian had a camera. Create a scrapbook he might show to his friends when he was rescued. Be sure to include significant events from the book.

For grade five social studies, an idea would be to create a journal of an explorer's life- details of childhood, nationality, motivation for exploration, challenges and successes, claim to fame and impact on First Nations people.

Students have recently brought pics on a flash drive to school. The pictures were to be specific to an important event in their life. Our plan was to make a photostory using their pictures. But using the scrapblog would be a very effective and fun way to document their memories from the pics/events. The final product would be sent to their "pals" (China & Colorado).

We are about to begin exploration of our school and larger community of Neepawa. We will be taking our own photos in both situations. I had planned to use power point but perhaps a scrapbook could be used although not sure with grade one.

Grade one is so much about ourselves. The other way to use this scrapbooking might be to create a group page at various times of the year so that we have a finished scrapbook at the end of the year as a souvenier of the year.

-Newsletters showing parents the events that happened that month at the school
-Camp Trip Scrapbook so that students could have a memory book from the trip and parents could see what happened on the three day trip
-Field Trip Books for kids and parents to see
-School Events (Meet The Teacher, Track and Field, Tabloid)
-You could have a month in review scrapbook
-You could create a school yearbook

We are studying the novel, The Hand of Robin Squires. Students could research the history of Oak Island and design a historic scrapbook from info and pictures found from the internet.

We could use this to document the camp trip (or any field trip/event). The camp trip could be done from both the grade 5 as well as grade 6 perspectives. They could take pictures as they go along and add comments later. the final product could be shared at our year end assembly.

Gr.6 - SS: Create a scrapbook on the arrival and settling of an immigrant to Canada during the early 1900's. Include information on the hardships and challenges faced by most immigrants.

There is a picture book called the Diary of a Worm. We watched a video version of this as well. The format could be very much like scrapbook pages. When we talk about animals this could be used to show animal life, growth, life cycles, and so on. The book would be a good starting point.

I see alot of curriculum connections using this idea of Scrapbooking. One curriculum connection would be to create a scrapbook on each family's history and related information which covers the SS topic on Pioneers. Students would collect all kinds of pictures on their parent's family tree. Interesting information on each family's history including significant family heirlooms could be highlighted.

We could do a photo hunt for school or classroom items for an alphabet book.
